Example of Student Individual Study Plan Procedures
This procedure is based upon Salem State University’s example.
Students arrive on campus in the fall semester. During the first semester, the students meet with transfer credit officer from the registrar’s office at Salem State University to determine which courses can be accepted for credit and/or substituted for U.S. courses. Decisions should be made on consultation with the various departments.
In January when the second semester starts: once students meet all requirements and are fully accepted and matriculated, they meet with their assigned academic advisor and two of them shall create and finalize the academic plan. Based on that plan, which covers all the 120 credits required by the American university, the advisor and the student select classes for the summer semester and the next fall semester.
Once this academic plan is developed and agreed upon by the chair of the department of the student’s major, it should be shared not only with the student and the Undergraduate and Graduate Transfer Program under CHEPD coordinator but also with the appropriate counterpart in the Chinese university, who has been identified by CCIEE.
When the student return to China, the Chinese university should notify the American university via the coordinators of the Undergraduate and Graduate Transfer Program under CHEPD with the course titles and grades of the courses completed upon return. The Chinese universities should also confirm that the student has met all the requirements to earn the degree from Chinese university. Then the American university can confirm with CCIEE and the Chinese university that all the requirements from an American university have therefore been met and diplomas can be issued.
